PEDESTRIANS ON THE HIGHWAY: These photos were taken on 24 March 2024 along the N4 highway between Pretoria and Rustenburg, in the vicinity of Bapong (South Africa). For many people, not even a pedestrian bridge will stop them from walking over the highway.
Road deaths and injuries to pedestrians, as a result of motor vehicle collisions, rank the highest across most (if not all) categories.
We are noticing a steady increase of pedestrians walking across highways throughout the country. One of the many reasons for this is that private public transport operators stop on the highways adjacent to nearby settlements / townships so that their passengers may climb out. Increased road safety awareness campaigns and visible traffic law enforcement is desperately and consistently needed❗️

VANDALIZED STREET LIGHT POLES EVERYWHERE: Photos were taken along the R565 road (on and near to the Ottoman Highway, Phokeng and the Bafokeng Sports Stadium, Rustenburg). This is 'gut-wrenching', every time we see it❗️The purpose of road infrastructure is to promote road safety and save the lives of motorists and pedestrians. Who are these depraved and troubled humans who cause such destruction and who care less for other road users❓️

TRUCK TROUBLE: We spotted this truck-and-trailer along the R512 road (close to Lanseria International Airport).
Note also the vandalism caused to the street lights along this road. In fact, street lights have been pulled down in many places in the country...order and disorder stand side by side❗️

SINGLE TRUCK CRASH: This Unitrans Truck crashed after failing to navigate a curve along the N3 (South) Freeway, just before entering Harrismith, Free State Province, RSA. The truck crossed over from its lane into the opposite lane before exiting the road. Be alert when driving - these types of crashes occur far too often ❗️
