Today 23 years ago I took a bold step to start my own firm. Today 23 years ago Marinus van Jaarsveld Attorneys were founded and Today we are 23 and not out. Thank you for all the support and each one that contributed. Especially thank you to each of our loyal employees that remained with us through thick and thin. We trust that we would be able to deliver specialized Legal services for another 23 years.

We wish to hereby inform you that, we at Marinus van Jaarsveld Attorneys are fully compliant with The Protection of Personal Information Act, Act 4 of 2013 which came into effect today, 01 July 2021.

In terms of the Act, the processing of personal information without the consent of the data subject (being you as the client) is unlawful and hence not allowed. There are however, as for most aspects of the law, some exceptions to the rule. We as attorneys process your personal information on a regular, if not daily basis, as part of our service-offering to our clients.

Section 4 of the POPI Act sets out the conditions whereunder we are allowed to legally process personal information and it is under these eight listed conditions that we operate in pursuit of your best interest as our clients. We undertake to not collect or process your personal information for any other purpose than originally agreed upon. We further confirm that we have the necessary safeguards in place to prevent any theft or loss of the digitally stored personal information in our possession.

Section 5 of the Act sets out your rights as a data subject and can be viewed at https://popia.co.za/, should you wish to read up on these. Kindly take note that you as a data subject have the right to request of us as attorneys whether we hold any of your personal information and further for us to provide you with a detailed description of the personal information that we do possess and or what purpose the information is being used for. You may also request from us the information of any third party who have or have had access to your personal information.
