A group of pre-med students from the USA, participating in the iXperience Programme, recently partnered with Guud Drivers and the Discovery Safe Journey to School (DSJTS) programme at Rusthof LSEN in Strand.

As part of their community health engagement, the students assisted in conducting health checks and eye tests for scholar transport drivers participating in the DSJTS programme.

Thank you to all partners involved for contributing towards safer journeys for our learners and meaningful community impact.

What began as a response to hunger and unemployment has grown into a space of opportunity, skills development, and community impact through Dinkwe Ditlou, founded by Mathudi Mabusela.

Supported by Social Employment Fund and Afrika Tikkun Services, Dinkwe Ditlou is currently hosting 22 candidates, equipping young people with practical agricultural skills while tackling food insecurity and unemployment head on.

“Waking up hungry is a story no one should have to tell.”

Through farming, collaboration and shared purpose, this initiative is creating more than produce and livestock, it is creating sustainable livelihoods and opportunities for young people to build a better future for themselves and their communities.

Freedom is more than a moment in history. It is what we make possible every day.
At Afrika Tikkun, our work is centered on one idea: expanding access to education, support and opportunity.

Because potential exists everywhere. Access does not.
Closing that gap is how freedom takes shape.

Happy Freedom Day.

Happy World Book Day.
Today, we celebrate how reading opens doors to confidence, sparks imagination and creates opportunity.

In South Africa, the transition to Grade 4 is a critical moment, and for many learners, a significant hurdle. But at Afrika Tikkun, our story is different.

58% of our Grade 3 learners have already reached reading fluency, placing them well above national benchmarks. This means they can read for meaning, imagine bigger possibilities, and step into Grade 4 with confidence.

Our libraries are at the heart of this journey. They create spaces where books inspire curiosity, build confidence, and ensure no child is left behind.

Because every child deserves the chance to turn a page and change their future.

Celebrating a Milestone in Digital Skills Development!

We are proud to celebrate the graduation of the first cohort from the LearnioAcademy Digital Skills Programme, a collaboration between Learnio Academy, Afrika Tikkun and Youth ICT Academy.

This partnership has brought together shared expertise and a common vision: to equip young people with the skills they need to thrive in the digital economy, with a focus on Graphic Design and Digital Marketing, combined with mentorship and freelancing readiness.

Early results show that over half of the 59 graduates are already engaging in income-generating activities through freelancing, launching small digital services, or securing employment opportunities.

Beyond the numbers, this graduation represents something deeper, confidence, direction, and opportunity. For many of these young people, this is more than a certificate. It is the beginning of a journey into the digital economy, where skills can translate into income, independence and long-term growth.

Congratulations to all the graduates for your resilience and commitment. Thank you to our partners for making this impact possible.

Our partnership with the Social Employment Fund (SEF) is showing the power of shared purpose as we expand our impact into Soshanguve, Pretoria. This collaboration has successfully placed 31 candidates across 21 ECD centres and the Giving Your Life a Meaning (GYLM) Foundation, highlighting how knowledge sharing and collaboration can strengthen local communities.
Recently, Project Lead Sonti Malindi and a team of 10 SEF staff visited centres in Soshanguve to connect and provide hands-on support. Beyond the classroom, the team extended their impact to the GYLM Foundation’s after-school programme, hosting a Hot Meals Kitchen that provided warm, nutritious meals to the youth in the programme.
It is with partnerships that we can build a sustainable model of support that proves we are stronger when we work together.

As part of Bertie Lubner Week, the Arekopaneng Alumni Constituency in Orange Farm gave back to the community through meaningful engagement with young people.

They began by working with post-matric youth, facilitating personality assessments to help participants understand their strengths, personalities and possible career paths. This was followed by Young Urban Women and Young Urban Men sessions, where open conversations explored the challenges young people face today.

The alumni then visited the Lemon to Lemonade Early Childhood Development Centre, supporting teachers and engaging children aged 2–6 with classroom activities, educational games, and basic learning exercises.

A simple, hands-on way to give back, connect, and inspire the next generation.

The future of work is digital and this week we celebrated 100 incredible young people graduating from the Technology Transforms Lives ICT and Mentorship Programme.

These graduates walk away with more than certifications. They leave with confidence, mentorship, networks and a renewed sense of possibility about what their futures can hold.

Through mentorship from leaders such as Guy Johnson and Phil Pavitt, young people gained real world insight into navigating and growing within today’s fast evolving tech landscape.

Powered by Belron® and delivered in partnership with Mangope Technology and Leadership Institute and Momentum Group Limited, the programme continues to build a pipeline of industry ready youth prepared to shape South Africa’s digital future.
