💔 “We agreed on everything… even the pension.”

A couple approached us after finalising what they believed was a straightforward, unopposed divorce.

They had agreed on all aspects — including the division of a pension interest.

However, the wording in the settlement agreement was incorrect.

As a result, the pension fund could not process the payment, and the court order did not give effect to what the parties intended.

This led to delays, additional legal steps, and unnecessary costs — all to correct something that should have been done properly from the start.

The reality is that pension interests require very specific legal wording to be enforceable.
