My Testimony
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10

As the trial of the century unfolds witnesses will be called to give testimony either in favour or in opposition to the accused defence. Reliable and consistent testimony will result in a just and equitable verdict.
As Christians, you are also called upon to bear testimony before a community of unbelievers regarding your confession of faith in Christ Jesus. In what way has the Lord made a difference in your life? Do you honour Him in your conversation and lifestyle? Do you honour Him in your actions and time?
The world looks at Christians and asks, “Why should I accept your Jesus as my Saviour?” Only when unbelievers recognise the change in your life will they desire the same changes to their lives.
Jesus as Lord and Saviour is on trial by the count of public opinion. The Lord is depending on your testimony to support His claim to be the Way, the Truth and Life. Share your testimony with someone today.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be a positive and reliable witness by your Grace.
Amen

The Bible

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

Do you want a “word from the Lord?” Do you want to receive a message from God? The good news is that God has spoken to you!

God has recorded His message in His Word, the Bible. The Creator of the universe promises to make His word alive to you. There is no equivalent, no competition, no other book in the world that comes close to His Word.

Take a fresh look at your Bible and allow God to speak to you today.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the treasure of Your Word. Help me to spend time with You by reading and studying Your Word.

Amen

Abounding Hope
…because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel”
Colossians 1:5
The message of Christianity is a message of hope. Hope both in this world and also the next. Why do we have hope? The greatest source of our hope is God’s character and who He is. No matter what the circumstances, we know that God will make a way. The cross is the greatest sign of hope, it shows us that when all seems lost, God is always in control. Whatever we are going through when we struggle, we need to focus on the cross and remember God has a plan, on earth and heaven.
Prayer: Lord You have blessed us with your Word so we may know You - thank You!

Be Glad Today
This is the day the LORD has made.

Psalm 118:24
Good morning my friend, today is the day that God has made for you, so be glad in it. I want to encourage you to look for the positive reason to be happy today. Don’t let people define the quality of this day. Keep your eyes wide open and look for opportunities to praise the Lord. Don’t allow any situation to deter you from celebrating the beauty and splendour of today.
Let the joy of the Lord encompass you and lift your spirit to heights of grandeur.
Prayer: Lord, Your power within me enables me to enjoy this day.
Amen

Follow – Don’t Lead!

The Lord is my shepherd…..

Psalm 23:1

These are a few words, but with profound meaning. This is probably my most favourite scripture after David’s words in 1 Chronicles 29:11-13! When I read this, I imagine that we seem to be wondering about through life, aimlessly, which of course we are. But when we make Christ our Shepherd, we get direction. We are no longer wondering around, we know where we come from and we know where we are going.

The road along the way will be bumpy – there will be obstacles. However, the Shepherd leads and as a result we will remain spiritually safe and arrive at our eternal destination – with Him. As our Shepherd, God provides for us. He preserves us and He directs us in everything we do. This does, however, mean that we must take the first step to submit ourselves to Him, trusting in Him. Get rid of the pride that stops us from handing over our lives to God. We must recognise that we cannot do life alone - if we try, it will be a miserable failure.

Folks, we should individually acknowledge Christ as our Shepherd. David writes “my” Shepherd. In our own lives we should all say to ourselves “the Lord cares about me, the Lord looks after me, the Lord protects me, the Lord guides me and the Lord comforts me.”

Have you made Jesus Christ your Shepherd, so that you can receive these wonderful promises?

Prayer: Please Lord, help me put away my pride so that I can openly acknowledge You as my Shepherd.

Amen

The Word of God
For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

1 Thessalonians 2:13

Modern society ridicules the idea of the inspiration of the Scriptures by saying we take the Bible “literally.” This is a misnomer because it implies that a conservative Christian does not know the difference between literal and figurative language and that he or she does not recognise idiomatic speech when reading it. If we took every word literally we would believe the earth is square because Scripture speaks of the “four corners of the earth.” That would be ridiculous. The Bible should be read as God’s inspired Word, authoritative and meaningful. But it should also be read with the attitude that the writing will have figurative expressions, parables, allegories, poetry and prose. A good rule to follow is, if the passage you are reading makes sense, seek no other sense.
Scripture is meant to be read by common men with limited education and intelligence as well as by scholars. God did not prepare the Bible to mean two different things – one for the ignorant and one for the intellectual. God’s Word is for all people in all circumstance, and it is plain enough so that any ordinary person can understand it. Don’t complicate it and be robbed of the blessings within.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your inspiration Word that speaks to our hearts on a daily basis. Let us never be hoodwinked by the enemy to believe that it was written only for those who are intellectuals, but that it is for everyone who believes.

Amen

Obedience
"By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.

Hebrews 11:4

Religious obedience is often misconstrued as effort and sacrifice. This key verse gives us insight into why Abel’s sacrifice was accepted. It wasn’t according to the amount of effort presented, for surely then Cain’s sacrifice would have been more worthy. Faith listens to the voice of God and acts accordingly.
Cain’s arrogance and pride were his downfall. Instead of obeying God’s voice, he wanted to bring his works to the altar. God prefers obedience to sacrifice.
There was a time when animal sacrifices were necessary. To offer an animal sacrifice to God today would not be faith, but disobedience. Our faith is now in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. His sacrifice was accepted and complete.
Rest in that finished work and praise God for the incredible plan of salvation that He has made available.
No longer your works, but His.
Prayer: Lord, may I hear Your voice, obey Your Word and respond in faith.

Amen

Chosen

……. high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:14

Often I have people ask how can they know if they are called or chosen of God. I have counselled some troubled souls who have read or heard about the doctrine of election. They fear that God has not chosen them and that they are eternally lost. What does it mean to be elected or chosen of God?

The operative words in our text are “in Christ.” If you are “in Christ” you are chosen. Christ is God’s vehicle of choice or the means by which souls are chosen and saved. If you admit that you are a sinner and by God’s power you choose to turn your back on your sin and repent, then confess Christ as your Saviour – Romans 10:9 –you are guaranteed of being elected.

It’s like marriage. Believing in marriage doesn’t make you married. Someone chooses you and you choose them and both of you say “I do” and you are declared married.

God sent Jesus into the world and took the first step in demonstrating His love for you – John 3:16. If you accept His gift of love, you become one with Christ, God’s only begotten Son, and you become united. You can then be assured you are saved and praise the Lord for this!

Prayer: Lord, thank You that I’m chosen because I’m in You.

Amen

Love You With The Truth

Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?

Galatians 4:16

This song, “Love you with the truth” on the new Casting Crowns CD is very thought-provoking and as you read these lyrics know that true love tells the truth even when your friends or family hate you for it.

For the longest time, I believed the lie
That I’m not a strong enough believer
To be the friend that can take your hand
And lead you straight to Jesus.
I’m waiting on the preachers, singers, and the teachers
To string the perfect words together
But every single time I have to say goodbye
I wonder will this be the last time.

I can’t call myself your friend and walk away.

When we love, we earn the right to speak the truth
When we speak truth, we show the world we truly love
I’m not pointing my finger, I’m holding out my hand
I lay it all on the line now to see God save my friend
Let my life and my words be the proof
I’m gonna love you with the truth.

Yes, God is love, but God is just
And we are separated in our darkness
So God let Him who knew no sin
To become sin to make us right with Him
It’s not about religion or earning God’s forgiveness
Or magic prayers or new behavior
It’s all about your heart, He’ll meet you where you are
Turn from your sin and trust in Christ as Lord

Jesus is the truth, the life, the way

How I’ve prayed for this moment, that you would finally see
That God is more than religion, a stained-glass fantasy
And how I’ve prayed for the courage, for my silent faith to speak
Or that God would just send you a better friend than me.

Prayer: O Lord, give me the courage to speak the truth in love and to keep persevering despite negative and personal attacks. Thank You for showing us Your love in action.

Amen

Beyond Our World

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD.

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

God is not governed by your feelings, limited by your thoughts or subject to your opinions. No matter what man may say or do, God’s truth will not change, God’s plans will come to fruition and His promises will be fulfilled.

God does things on a different level. We might not always see what He is accomplishing in the situations we face, but rest assured – He is at work!

Trust Him. He will never disappoint.

Prayer: Father, help me to let go of my own selfish ways of trying to fix things and make things work. I put my trust and faith in You.

Amen

I’m Complete

You are complete in Him.

Colossians 2:10

I composed this devotional poem just for you.

In Christ alone complete am I
In this I know God cannot lie
He sent His Son to die for me
In this I’m certain and I’m free
To live a life that’s pleasing to Him
Free from the guilt and shame of sin.
It’s not by any good I do
But by His Grace He’ll see me through
For when a soul repents it’s saved
The Lord affirms the price that’s paid,

It’s by His merits alone I know,

That by His Spirit I will grow.
I take this stand, it’s my decision
I trust in God for my completion.

Prayer: Lord, I bow in humble contrition, express my joy in adoration, at last I know that I am whole, there’s peace, contentment in my soul. Praise the Lord.

Amen
