Follow – Don’t Lead!
The Lord is my shepherd…..
Psalm 23:1
These are a few words, but with profound meaning. This is probably my most favourite scripture after David’s words in 1 Chronicles 29:11-13! When I read this, I imagine that we seem to be wondering about through life, aimlessly, which of course we are. But when we make Christ our Shepherd, we get direction. We are no longer wondering around, we know where we come from and we know where we are going.
The road along the way will be bumpy – there will be obstacles. However, the Shepherd leads and as a result we will remain spiritually safe and arrive at our eternal destination – with Him. As our Shepherd, God provides for us. He preserves us and He directs us in everything we do. This does, however, mean that we must take the first step to submit ourselves to Him, trusting in Him. Get rid of the pride that stops us from handing over our lives to God. We must recognise that we cannot do life alone - if we try, it will be a miserable failure.
Folks, we should individually acknowledge Christ as our Shepherd. David writes “my” Shepherd. In our own lives we should all say to ourselves “the Lord cares about me, the Lord looks after me, the Lord protects me, the Lord guides me and the Lord comforts me.”
Have you made Jesus Christ your Shepherd, so that you can receive these wonderful promises?
Prayer: Please Lord, help me put away my pride so that I can openly acknowledge You as my Shepherd.
Amen
