ELECTIONS, COALITIONS AND HOGWASH
It has now been almost a week since the most earthmoving elections in South Africa has taken place.
As everyone, except the most deliberate and obstinate ostrich, have expected, the ANC continued its downward trajectory and ende up with just shy of 40% of the vote nationally. While many will say it is just the electorate who has spoken, I know that this is the result of a careful triangulation of killing off the ANC without firing a single round.
But that is a topic for a whole other day.
This brings me to the question of coalitions.
One thing is obvious. Nobody can form a government without the ANC.
That being out of the way the next thing that is obvious, is the almight fight taking place within the ANC around who the best coalition partners for the ANC would be and not necessarily what would be in the in best interest of the country.
It is for this reason that a number of interesting developments are unfolding and of which one will see more and more over the next few days. Most interesting is the arrest of Z**i Kodwa and his appearance today. This is an early harbinger of the direction in which the ANC NEC might be leaning.
Over the past few days people like Kgalema Mothlanthe and Lindiwe Sisulu have been coming out against a coalition with the DA.
For those whose primary project is the complete annihilation of the ANC, it is really neither here nor there. Another 5 years of pain inflicted upon the people of SA by the ANC/MK/EFF will actually create the wonderful prospect of killing all three birds with one stone come 2029.
Now for the hogwash.
Zuma and his cronies have threatened to boycott the provinsial legislature in KZN. It is the biggest party and can certainly do with the votes what it wants. By not taking up their seats they will only expose their own policy bankrupcy and those who climbed on the MK bandwagon in the hope for a cushy salary might become suitably unhappy to the point where they abandon MK in droves.
His threat that MKwill also not take up their seats in the National Assemply is simply hogwash. It will mean nothing in the overall scheme of things. It will be merelyy a 7 year old boy trying to urinate against a gale force South Easterly wind on the Parade.
