Proposed new minimum wage is R3 500 per month

Cape Town - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the proposed new minimum wage will be R3 500 per month.

That amounts to about R20 per hour.

Professor Imraan Valodia, leader of the panel who investigated the matter, said 47% of currently employed people earn below this new proposed rate.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant says collective agreements will remain in place. The figure is for those who earn less than R3500.

YEAR END FUNCTIONS
Although most employers generally have an alcohol policy in place, often stipulating a "zero tolerance" approach to alcohol consumption in relation to their work or workplace, this policy is usually relaxed for the purposes of social work functions.
Employees need to understand that this does not mean that all rules are suspended for the duration of the function.
