Dear NADEL Members,
Voting for the Legal Practice Council Senior Honours Selection Committee is now underway.
As NADEL, we encourage all members and colleagues committed to transformation and human rights to actively participate in this important process. The composition of this Committee is critical — it shapes decisions on the conferral of silk and, ultimately, the direction, credibility, and inclusivity of our profession.
In line with NADEL’s commitment to advancing a transformed, equitable, and socially responsive legal profession, we proudly support the nomination of Ngqiqo Sakhela (NADEL Deputy President) and Ncumisa Nongogo.
Ngqiqo Sakhela brings a long-standing record of leadership across student, legal, and professional structures, with early roots in student activism and continued service in legal organisations. His leadership within NADEL includes serving in the Mthatha Branch from 2007 to 2010, as Mthatha Branch Chairperson from 2010 to 2015, and as a NEC Member from 2016 to 2018. He currently serves as Deputy President of NADEL and the Wild Coast Attorneys Association, and began practising as an attorney in 2006. He is well positioned to serve on the Senior Honours Selection Committee, with a track record that reflects integrity, commitment, and the sound judgment required for such an important responsibility.
Ncumisa Nongogo is an attorney with over 28 years’ post-admission experience and has practised for her own account for more than 22 years. She brings significant leadership experience, having previously served on the NADEL NEC and as Chair of the Eastern Cape Provincial Council of the LPC for two terms. She is a strong advocate for gender transformation, currently serves as Deputy President of SAWLA, and is deeply committed to mentoring young practitioners.
Their leadership, integrity, and dedication to transformation make them strong candidates to help ensure that the Senior Honours Selection Committee reflects the diversity and values our profession must embody.
Your vote is a contribution to building a more just, representative, and progressive legal community.
We therefore urge you to cast your vote and support Sakhela and Ncumisa.
In solidarity,
NADEL
