ZERO TOLERANCE FOR DRUGS AND ALCOHOL DOES NOT IMPLY “0.00” CUT-OFF LIMITS!!!
A COMPANY WITH A ZERO-TOLERANCE APPROACH TO DRUGS AND ALCOHOL USE SHOULD NOT HAVE ZERO CUT-OFF LIMITS!
This is a recurring problem in South Africa’s workplaces. The good news is that it is not a complex problem to solve!
“Zero-tolerance” is the correct approach but “0.00” as a cut-off limit for alcohol and drugs may be viewed as irrational by a court and, a company will lose their case against the worker if they get challenged on “0.00 -concentration”.
