The LPC has issued proposals on minimum remuneration for Candidate Legal Practitioners. They are to be congratulated on finding a suitable method of retarding access to the legal profession.

September 2023 brings my time in legal practice to 38 years which will not change but will be different.

From 1 September McLaren's will cease to exist as a physical practice and will operate as a virtual Law Practice with a small admin office in Sandton.

I am helped by my Partner Holly Hughes Stopforth and four other competent Attorneys who bring something unique into the mix, more about them later.

It is business as usual and I look forward to being of assistance for many years to come.

Today the Constitutional Court handed down judgement to the effect holders of expired fi****ms licences may apply for a new licence as opposed to a renewal of their current licence.

To be noted that unless you have applied for a renewal of your firearm licence timeously( in which case your current licence remains valid pending the adjudication of the renewal application) you will be in unlawful possession of the firearm and subject to prosecution.

The judgment sets an important distinction between ownership and the right to possess the firearm ie The firearm licence gives you the right to have a firearm in your possession.

This is a great step forward for lawful firearm owners in South Africa.
