PODCAST: I recently had the opportunity to join the Radio 2000 Big Breakfast Show for an important conversation on the South African Artificial Intelligence Policy Framework following its withdrawal by the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies after fake references were discovered.

This raises critical questions about governance, credibility, and the future direction of AI regulation in South Africa, all of which we need to engage with thoughtfully and transparently.

Radio Interview 📻: I joined Cathy Mohlahlana on SAFM’s The National Briefing this morning to discuss the horrific story of the 12 year girl who was brutally r***d allegedly by a 58 year old community leader in Dobsinville, Soweto.

Please listen to the full interview on the link below.

I also want to urge everyone: if you come across the video being circulated online, do not share it. Report it immediately on the platform you see it on. Sharing child sexual abuse material is illegal and only causes further damage and violates the dignity of those involved.

Let’s act responsibly and protect one another.

Australia Changed the Rules on Social Media. Now What?

Two months into Australia’s landmark social media age restrictions, the world is watching.

Is it working? Are platforms complying? Can age verification really be enforced? And what does this mean for South Africa?

Join Hugo Ribatika in conversation with Dany Elachi, the father and co-founder of the Heads Up Alliance who helped drive this global shift in child online safety.

This is real-time policy in action, and the lessons matter for us.

If Australia can do it… what’s stopping South Africa?

[COMING UP] Be careful what you post on social media. It lives there forever. This comes amid intensifying calls for Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie to resign. Racially charged posts that he made as far back as 2013 have resurfaced online. Lerato Ntwampe, social media legal consultant, joins us.

📢 Parents, new research is out!
A massive international study has just linked giving smartphones to children under 13 📱 with significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression, and even suicidal thoughts.
The earlier a child gets a smartphone, the greater the mental health risk - especially for girls 👧.

Experts are increasingly recommending:
• 🚫 No smartphones before age 13
• ⏳ Wait even longer if you can
• ❌ No social media before age 16 (this recommended age may rise as more data emerges)
• ⚽🧩 Prioritising real-world play over screen time
