Question of the day: Why is having a valid will important?
Legal answer: A valid will ensures that your estate IS NOT distributed in accordance with the laws of intestate succession. Put plainly and simply, if you die without executing a valid will your estate is distributed in accordance with the procedures set out in the Intestate Succession Act (81 of 1987).
Executing a valid will ensures that your estate (including your assets) is distributed in accordance with your wishes and that the people you love and care for ultimately benefit. The existence of a valid will further ensures that unintended consequences and unnecessary delays do not occur.
