REMINDER TO NEWLY REGISTERED CANDIDATE LEGAL PRACTITIONERS: ETHICS
1. Upon registering your articles of clerkship (also known as Practical Vocational Training under the Legal Practice Act No 28 of 2014 ), the Legal Practice Council takes about 2 to 3 weeks before they issue you with a Right of Appearance Certificate.
2. During that waiting period for the issuing of the Right of Appearance Certificate, you are allowed to appear in lower courts, just always make sure that you carry your stamped PVT contract with you to courts when making appearances just in case the presiding officer demands that you identify yourself, then you will produce the contract.
3. Once the Right of Appearance Certificate is issued, you are only allowed to appear in lower courts. And you are strictly allowed to appear in District Courts during the first year of your Practical Vocational Training.
4. After completing the first year period into your training, you then become eligible to make appearances in the Regional Court where you can now deal with divorce cases and many other cases that are heard in the Regional Court.
Always make sure that you do not breach your Ethical Code of Conduct.
