Why Am I Still Married at Home Affairs After My Divorce?

Getting divorced doesn’t mean your marital status updates automatically with Home Affairs. Here’s why this happens and what to do:-

Why It Happens:
1. The divorce decree issued by the court isn’t automatically sent to Home Affairs.
2. Home Affairs needs an official copy of your decree of divorce to update their records.

What You Should Do:
1. Get a certified copy of your divorce decree.
2. Visit your nearest Home Affairs office with your ID and decree.
3. Request that they update your marital status in their system.
4. Follow up to confirm the update, this can take a few weeks.

Why It Matters:
An incorrect marital status can complicate future marriages, financial transactions, or legal matters, so double-check and get it fixed.
