A recent High Court ruling in the Dlomo v De Klerk case has reignited the debate around verbal property sale agreements in South Africa.

The case involved a family who allegedly paid R1 million for a home based on a verbal agreement, only to face eviction when the property was never transferred into their names.

While the High Court ruled in the family's favour, the decision still requires confirmation by the Constitutional Court.
