World smile Day:

Yes, it’s Friday! But you have more than one reason to smile today – it’s also World Smile Day.

In 1963 the designer of the original emoji, the smiley, declined to register the trademark for a profit – saying “Hey, I can only eat one steak at a time, and drive one car at a time”.

The designer, Mr Harvey Ball, also started a children’s charity called the World Smile Foundation – which we have to thank for organizing World Smile Day each year.

So get in the spirit of World Smile Day and "Do an act of kindness - help one person smile" ☺

5 September was the first-ever World Koeksister Day. 😊 For those who are not familiar with one of South Africa’s favourite tea-time treats, koeksisters are made by plaiting dough, deep frying it and then plunging the plaits into an ice-cold sugar syrup. Yum. Here’s an idea for the next time you feel you want to give back to the community: make a batch of koeksisters and take them to your nearest homeless shelter or old-age home. You’ll make someone very happy!
