Aaliyah joins our Johannesburg branch in her second year of articles. After having ceded her articles in order to gain greater exposure to other fields of law, this University of Witwatersrand alumni is the latest beaming smile in our already glowing team of young, female professionals. We’re excited to have her join the team and show us what she already knows how to do, but also can’t wait to be part of the next steps on her legal journey.
Aaliyah in her own words: “I’m a candidate attorney by day and an endurance athlete by sunrise (and sometimes before coffee). I love the structure and discipline that comes with long-distance running, it teaches you to keep going, even when everything in you says “no thanks.” That mindset helps when you’re deep into a 400-page discovery bundle.
I’ve been told I’m the life of the party, but also the kind of person you want in your corner when things get tough, a fighter with a soft spot for good arguments and better snacks. I chose law because I truly believe that the world runs on good arguments and someone’s got to make sure they’re fair, logical, and compelling (plus, it’s the only profession where arguing can actually be encouraged).
Also, I’ve learned that uploading even a simple three-page affidavit to CaseLines requires the patience of a marathon runner and the faith of a saint.
I’m lucky enough to begin working with an incredible team of powerhouse women who prove daily that brilliance, boldness, and balance aren’t mutually exclusive. It’s wildly inspiring and a reminder that we can truly do it all and do it well (preferably in heels).”
