Over the past month, I saw a policy document and a liquidation and distribution account of one of the businesses that sells you insurance and misleadingly advertises that your estate will be wound up without executors fees. Mmm. Needless to say, the so called policy benefits are so limited that it does not cover the full costs of administration of the estate or transfer costs - in fact very little. Probably, if it would cover all costs, the premiums would be unaffordable. Wolves in sheeps clothes. And then some even say...you do no need a lawyer. Like in really? Big business wants to scare the public against using a qualified legal practitioner and then administer the estate with admin personnel who are not lawyers? I know what I would prefer. Qualifications and personal service. Not idiotic systems and different staff all the time. Plus, most lawyers are willing to negotiate a fee. Aikona if you take out these policies. The "benefit" I saw today is probably less than the discount a legal practitioner would give. And, if you support a legal practitioner, your money does not go to the shareholders and bank/insurance bosses earning much more in a day than most people in SA makes in a year. Did you know most legal practitioners in SA are sole proprietors, meaning that they work hard to earn a living? Plus, we provide pro bono services to the public. Must still see a bank/big insurance company doing that. Also. Not true that you don't need a lawyer. Only a conveyancer, i.e. specialist lawyer may transfer immovable property. Rather save the premiums and support small business and a local attorney.
