ANNOUNCEMENT
ONLINE WORKSHOPS
The role of independent paralegals within the legal and advisory services environment continues to evolve, with increasing emphasis on professional practice, ethical service delivery, compliance awareness, client management, and appropriate and affordable fee-based services.
In response to this ongoing development, the Paralegal Association of South Africa (PALSA) is pleased to introduce a specialised 2026 Workshop Series designed to equip qualified paralegals with practical knowledge, professional tools, and structured approaches to operate effectively and sustainably within the legal services environment.
The workshops are designed to be practical, interactive and practice-oriented, with opportunities for questions, discussion and case-based learning.
INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP
Independent Paralegal Practice: Basic Essentials
Theme: Compliance, Clients & Professional Foundations
Date: Saturday 05 September 2026
Time: 09:00 – 11:00
Format: Workshop + Q&A
Workshop Overview
This introductory session provides paralegals with a practical foundation for establishing and or managing a professional independent paralegal services
Key areas covered will include:
Operating as an independent paralegal
Understanding professional roles and boundaries
Paralegals professional code of Conduct
Client onboarding and professional communication
Introduction to the ethics and structure of fee’s
Basic compliance awareness in day-to-day service delivery
Professional documentation and client records
Managing expectations and communicating service limitations
Professional standards and responsible service delivery

2. ADVANCED WORKSHOP
Professional Paralegal Practice Mastery – ADVANCED

This advanced practical workshop is designed for paralegals seeking to strengthen their professional practice and all the necessary and required practicalities thereof.
Key areas covered will include:
Advanced fee-structuring models for paralegal services
Developing professional service packages
Client-management systems and workflows
Client complaints and dispute-handling frameworks
Compliance risk identification and mitigation
Professional positioning within the legal services environment
Case-based practical applications
Professional relationships with attorneys, advocates and other legal professionals
Understanding appropriate interactions with court processes
Ethical considerations in independent paralegal practice
Managing professional risk and maintaining appropriate boundaries
Building sustainable and professional paralegal services

Non-Members: R700
Assessment: A short assessment will be sent out following the workshop for completion and return
Certification: Participants who achieve a minimum mark of 50% will qualify for a Certificate of workshop training and the full version supporting booklet..
ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION
PALSA is committed to ensuring that its workshops provide meaningful professional development rather than merely attendance-based participation.
Accordingly:
A Workshop training Assessment will be sent out to all participants, who must complete it and return it within 1 (ONE) week.
Participants must achieve a minimum 50% pass mark to qualify for certification.
Certificates will be issued after ALL assessments have been retuned.
Participants who do not achieve the required pass mark can request to complete an appropriate remedial or reassessment process, to allow them to qualify for the certificate
Certificates will be issued to participants who satisfy the applicable assessment requirement.
Please note: A Certificate is intended to confirm successful completion of the relevant PALSA workshop and should not be interpreted as a change in the participant's underlying professional qualification or statutory status.
