A 17-year-old boy was unlawfully arrested at his home in Rebone, Steiloop, Limpopo, while watching television with a friend.

Police took three hours to transport him just 21 kilometres. He spent approximately 36 hours in an overcrowded, filthy cell without bedding or heating, forcing detainees to hug each other to keep warm.

He was released without charge.

More than 11 years later, the High Court awarded him R80,000 in damages.
