FREE STATE HOMEBREW FESTIVAL STATE OF READINESS
The 2025 Free State Homebrew Festival, scheduled for the 20th to the 23rd of February in Bloemfontein (Mangaung), is billed to be one of the foremost performance opportunities platforms for Free State artists. The festival will be launched tonight, 20th February at President Hotel in Bloemfontein, Mangaung.
Amongst key milestones that are being delivered through this festival are the following:
• Providing performance opportunities to about 240 Free State artists who will perform at the different venues in Bloemfontein.
• Over 60 temporary job opportunities in the following aspects of the festival: Event management and promotion; stage management; training and development facilitation; security; cleaning services; and so on.
• In line with the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) principles, the above milestones, as well as economic opportunities that will be provided to Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), the festival also strives to advance Local Economic Development through sourcing transportation, accommodation, catering, technical equipment and venue bookings from local establishments. Book sales by established and budding authors, as well as sales of crafts and visual art materials also create the much-needed economic impetus through the festival.
Free State Homebrew Festival is a multi-disciplinary programme consisting of the following genres: Theatre and Dance; Music; Literature; Poetry, as well as Visual Arts, Photography and Crafts. Preparations towards the implementation of the festival, have been completed and the programme will be rolled out as planned.
“We are delighted to have lived up to our commitment to collaborate with our stakeholders within the creative sector in putting together a list of artists who will feature in this festival: South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum (SAACYF), as well the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA). The Department will continue to roll out more arts and culture programmes, and provide support to independent arts and culture events, as a way of expanding performance platforms to accommodate more Free State artists”, reflected the Member of the Executive Council for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Me Ntombizanele Sifuba.
