I often come across the following myths when dealing with a divorce: 1. I am married in community of property for the last 5 years and my spouse has been a member of a pension fund for 12 years. I am only entitled to 50% of my spouse’s pension for the period of our marriage..

Know Your Rights:

I frequently encounter situations where a person selling their house is bullied into using a specific law firm to attend to the registration of the transfer by the estate agent, not knowing that they had a choice in who to appoint as the conveyancer.

Often the seller is told that only the specific firm is able to do the work and that appointing someone else will risk the entire process. This is not true and you as the seller have a right to consult with a conveyancer of your choice and if satisfied appoint such conveyancer to attend to the transaction.

Feel free to give us a call for advice about conveyancing.

I recently became involved in a divorce in which my client was sued for divorce. The other party had gone to the regional court and completed the summons and particulars of claim without legal help. Because of this, the documents were unclear and even contradicted itself in places.

It later turned out that what the other party wanted was not even indicated in the documents. This meant the other party had to apply for leave to amend the documents with the help of an attorney. It would have been much cheaper had an attorney been consulted from the very beginning. Doing it yourself is not always cheaper or better. Rather come speak to us and find out how we can help you at an affordable price.
