Diary of a Family Lawyer.

If you’re a Black professional, you’ve probably had some version of this moment.

Credentials get you in the room.
They just don’t always change what people expect to see when you walk in.

I’m not shocked anymore.

I just keep showing up.

One of the best things you can teach your kids?

Accountability.

Not perfection.
But when they mess up? Teach them to own it, make it right, and be aware of how their choices affect others and themselves.

Teach them to say:

I was wrong.

I take responsibility.

I’ll do better.
…and then actually do better.

It’s one of the most underrated life skills.
Kids who don’t learn it? Grow into adults who blame everybody for everything but themselves.

Kids who do? Navigate life with healthier relationships and better life experiences in general... even when they fall short.

And truth is, we have the opportunity to teach it with love and grace. But if we don't, life will teach it...and it won't be so gracious.

Did someone teach you accountability when you were younger? Or did life have to do it?

Drop one word below that describes your experience

This is for you If you don't have kids yet, but are thinking about it or know you want to someday:

You didn’t get to choose your parents.
But you do get to choose your child’s other parent.

Read that again..

That decision? Whew. It’s one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make & I feel like we don't talk about it enough.

Parenting is beautiful, but it’s real.
And the decisions you make before the child gets here... shape everything that comes after.

I’m not saying it to scare you. I’m saying it because I’ve seen what happens after the baby, when the relationship doesn’t work, and you’re stuck in a storm of custody hearings, co-parenting stress, or trying to fix things you didn’t break alone... it's hard...often heartbreaking. But it doesn't have to be.

If you’re still in the phase where you can choose… choose wisely. Choose intentionally. Choose like your future child’s peace depends on it...because it does.

“I chose stillness over scrambling.
Peace over pressure.
Me over everything else.”

Sometimes the hardest decision is choosing you.
Not the chaos. Not the grind. Not everybody else’s expectations.

Just you.
Your peace.
Your sanity.

I wrote about it—real talk, no fluff.

I don't know who needs to hear this but, you're not required to give everyone access to you/your life/your vibe.

It’s not something everyone is entitled to—just because they want access, or because you’ve always shown up for them.

Being supportive doesn’t mean being available to everyone at all times.
Being dependable doesn’t mean sacrificing yourself for others’ comfort.

Access should be earned—with respect, accountability, and reciprocity.

Setting boundaries isn’t selfish—it’s responsible.
It’s how you protect your well-being, your time, and your energy.

You’re allowed to pivot. To pause. To stop choosing struggle out of habit.
You deserve peace. You deserve joy. You deserve to like your life.

Start by dropping one thing that’s not working anymore—just because you can.
What’s yours?

When you decide to build your dream life, you stop tolerating the stuff that drains you.

The job? The routine? The role you never signed up for?
Yeah—” poof“ gone.

Because once you get a taste of alignment, misery ain’t on the menu anymore.

Insist on joy. Demand peace. Move like your life depends on it—because it does.

🚨 STOP signing contracts without reading!

Too many people lose money, time, and opportunities because they didn’t understand the fine print. Don’t let that be you.

It’s time to take control of your agreements – and your future.

A word for the week:

Let’s talk about change.

Change can be exciting when it’s planned or wanted, but let’s be honest—it’s often uncomfortable, especially when it feels involuntary.

The truth is, growth rarely happens in comfort zones & it may be time to get a lil' uncomfortable 😬.

So if you’re navigating change right now—whether it’s in your career, your relationships, or just within yourself—know that this transition could be exactly what you need to get closer to your goals.

This week, instead of resisting change, lean into it. Ask yourself: What is this shift trying to teach me? How can I embrace it and use it as an opportunity to grow?

Remember, discomfort is temporary—but the rewards of embracing change can change your life for the better too!

What changes are you navigating right now? Let’s talk about it. Sharing is caring, and maybe I can help.
