🌿 One Team, Two Energies: Baker McKenzie Vietnam’s Wellbeing Days

In a profession being reshaped daily by AI, rising expectations, and endless screen time, it is easy to forget the importance of pressing "pause." At Baker McKenzie Vietnam, we believe that taking care of our people isn’t just a nice-to-have policy, it is foundational to who we are.
This May, our Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City offices took two very different approaches — both equally meaningful — to disconnect from screens and reconnect as humans.

On 16 May, our Hanoi office kicked off the wellness calendar with an outdoor trekking day in the fresh air of Ba Vi Mountain.

What made the day special wasn't the scenery alone, but the conversations that happened when no one was watching the clock. We learned things about each other that rarely surface in months of back-to-back calls. The day wrapped up with a small gathering in nature and some heartfelt performances, simple, but deeply human.

Later in the month on 29 May, our Ho Chi Minh City office brought a completely different kind of energy to the court with our Pickleball Tournament — faster, louder, and full of laughter.

Many picked up a paddle for the very first time. There were beginners, nervous laughs, and plenty of missed shots, but the spirit was absolutely there. Through doubles, singles, and friendly rivalries (with prizes to celebrate the effort, of course!), what mattered most wasn't who won, but how everyone showed up for each other.

Whether hiking through mountain trails or diving for a pickleball volley, investing in our collective wellbeing doesn’t have to be complicated. Strong teams aren't built on billable hours alone. They're built on shared moments, whether it’s sharing coconut juice after a hike or exchanging a high-five after a lucky serve.

At Baker McKenzie Vietnam, we're proud to care for our people not just as professionals, but as individuals first. Because when our teams feel recharged and connected, everyone rises.

Over the past year, Viet Nam has accelerated efforts to modernise its intellectual property (IP) regime, with particular emphasis on enforcement, an area long scrutinised by foreign investors assessing market and operational risk. At the same time, attention has increasingly shifted from what the law provides to how it functions in practice. This distinction came into sharper focus on April 30, 2026, when the US Trade Representative (USTR) designated Viet Nam a “Priority Foreign Country” in its annual Special 301 Report.

Our senior IP consultant Peter N. Fowler and associate Anh Thu (Alison) Nguyen from BMVN, the strategic alliance of Baker McKenzie Vietnam, have just featured in Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper (the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Vietnam), sharing their insights on Viet Nam’s evolving IP enforcement framework and what recent reforms signal for foreign investors.
