The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi has reminded American citizens to complete a declaration form before arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, in line with a new regulation that took effect in mid-April.
In a Facebook post published on April 22, the embassy said the policy applies to both foreign passport holders and overseas Vietnamese entering on a visa.

To complete the declaration, the embassy instructed its citizens to access the form available online at: https://prearrival.immigration.gov.vn/ as early as three days prior to their arrival date.

Starting from April 15, Vietnam's Department of Immigration has implemented pre-entry information declarations for international arrivals at the country's busiest airport to reduce immigration processing time.

Vietnamese passport holders and transit passengers are exempt from the requirement.

Those who fail to complete the declaration in advance may face longer processing times at immigration checkpoints, the department warns.

U.S. was one of Vietnam's 10 largest tourism markets in the first quarter of this year, with 302,000 arrivals, marking a 17% increase.

According to the requirements of the Vietnam Immigration Department, Official Letter No. 1474/CACK TSN, from April 15, 2026, passengers belonging to the following categories will be required to declare their personal information before entry and present a QR code upon successful declaration to the Border Police (CACK) at Tan Son Nhat Airport when completing immigration procedures:

This regulation is mandatory for:

The Indian embassy in Hanoi has urged Indians to obtain a Vietnamese visa even if they plan to visit only visa-free Phu Quoc, warning that unexpected travel to the mainland could otherwise lead to complications.
In a notice posted on its official page, the embassy said while Phu Quoc Island offers visa-free entry, it allows travel and stay only within the island and does not permit entry into mainland Vietnam.

But in case of medical emergencies or flight disruptions, travelers may need to travel to major cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi for treatment, onward journeys or consular assistance.
