If you are applying for a Vietnamese visa for a foreigner, especially an e-visa, here are the key points to keep in mind:
1. Check the passport
The passport should have more than 6 months of validity.
All information on the visa application must exactly match the passport.
2. Enter all information accurately
Pay particular attention to:
Full name — enter it exactly as shown in the ICAO section of the passport.
Passport number.
Date of birth.
Nationality.
Visa start date.
Intended port of entry.
Visa type: single entry or multiple entry.
Incorrect or incomplete information may result in the application being rejected.
3. Prepare the photos correctly
For an e-visa application:
Use a recent portrait photo.
Look straight at the camera.
No hat or glasses.
White background.
Provide a clear scan/photo of the passport information page.
4. Choose the correct visa validity period
A Vietnam e-visa can currently be issued for up to 90 days, with either:
Single entry, or Multiple entry.
If the traveler plans to leave Vietnam and return during the visa period, a multiple-entry visa is required.
5. Select the correct entry port
Make sure the airport or border checkpoint you plan to use accepts Vietnam e-visas. Common airports include Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, and Phu Quoc.
6. Visa fees are non-refundable
The current e-visa fees are:
US$25 — single entry
US$50 — multiple entry
The fee is generally non-refundable even if the application is refused.
7. Apply well before your flight
The official processing time is generally 3-7 working days, but it is recommended to apply 2 weeks in advance in case corrections or additional processing are required.
Once approved, download and print a copy of the e-visa and carry it with you when entering Vietnam.
