“The home passed inspection.”
It’s a phrase we hear all the time in real estate — but it’s not really how home inspections work.
A home inspection is not a pass-or-fail test. It is a visual evaluation of the home’s accessible systems and components at the time of the inspection. The purpose is not to give the house a grade. The purpose is to give the buyer a clearer understanding of the home.
Every home has findings. Even well-maintained homes can have defects, safety concerns, aging components, maintenance items, or areas that may need further evaluation by a qualified professional.
That does not mean the home is a bad house.
It means the buyer is informed.
And that matters.
For sellers, this is important to understand too. An inspection report may include maintenance items, safety concerns, defects, or recommendations for further evaluation, but that does not automatically mean the home “failed” or that every item is unusual.
At Winspex, we believe a good inspection report should bring clarity — not confusion. Based in Zanesville, we help buyers better understand the observed condition of the home at the time of the inspection.
