It's a great week to be in criminal defense. My job is to zealously advocate for my clients and to make sure their rights are not being violated. These charges should have never been brought, and the Court agreed. My client now walks a free man. Case dismissed 👨🏽‍⚖️

As February is coming to a close, we pause for a moment to honor and reflect on the legacy of Judge David F. Pugh.

"America was best. Do your best. Things will change."
Those weren't just words Judge Pugh heard growing up, they were words he lived.

In 1990, The Honorable, Judge David F. Pugh took his seat as Newport News' first Black judge. A neighbor, a veteran, a son of the East End, Judge Pugh spent nearly two decades advocating for his community and justice before taking a seat on the bench. He understood that justice only works when it works for everyone. His initial appointment to General District Court and appointment to the Circuit Court in 2003, broke barriers right here, in the very community that raised him.

When asked about his appointment, he simply said,
"I want to be a good judge."
And that's exactly what he was!
A son of Newport News, prevalent leader, and giant amongst giants, Judge Pugh continues to prove that the bench belongs to all of us!
