On Wednesday of last week I got a call stating that our office on the 10th floor of the Larson building was flooded due to a burst pipe in the attic. They are in the process of moving all furniture and assessing the damage.

For the time being our receptionist is working out of our break room in Suite 1007. If you need to stop by we are still here!

There was damage to furniture, the copier, and (tragically!) some artwork, but luckily all the files are safe and sound.

We are going to find a temporary home somewhere else in the building and when we do we'll let you know.

Our office will be CLOSED on Wednesday June 18 due to construction. We will be working from home so please feel free to send an email or leave a message if you need to contact us.

Documents can be dropped off through the mail slot in the door although parking in and around the Larson building will be limited.

I'm in the office for some Saturday appointments and I can't tell you how grateful I am for the people down in the street, making their voices heard.

Things are difficult right now but we have each other.

There is a lot of uncertainty right now with changes in the government. I wanted to schedule a time to talk about what's going on, knowing your rights and how to best prepare for the next four years.

Please join me this Sunday for a Know Your Rights presentation. You can join anonymously and ask questions in the chat.

I'm planning on starting with English and then going back over things in Spanish.

One of the goals of the Trump administration is to promote fear and panic amongst migrant communities. The best way to counter this is to be prepared.

The administration is aiming to expand the use of "expedited removal" for people who cannot prove they have been in the United States for at least two years. This would allow low-level officers to detain and deport individuals they suspect have been in the U.S. for less than two years.

Will this happen? Will it happen often, or to someone you know? There's no way to say for sure, but the best thing you can do is the following:

Put together a packet that includes evidence of your continuous physical presence in the United States (bills, bank statements, paystubs, tax returns, etc.). Try to get evidence from each of the years you've been in the country. Include other important documents, like birth certificates of children, marriage certificate, etc.

Make copies of all these documents (don't carry around originals) and keep one with you or in your car, and give another copy to a trust family member or friend just in case. You can also take pictures of these documents and keep them saved on your phone, or save them to a USB drive which you can keep on a key chain. There are lots of ways to make sure you have these documents if you need them.

You most likely will *not* need to use these documents, but in the past we have seen that enforcement efforts during times like these can be random so it is best to be prepared.

Yesterday Donald Trump took office (again) and issued a series of immigration related "executive orders." There will undoubtedly be many questions about how, if at all, these orders will impact your case, your family, or your friends.

So far we don't really know. As we saw from 2016-2020 there have already been a number of lawsuits to challenge these executive orders. As we learn more we will be posting information here and on our website.

My advice for the time being is to find a good, trusted news source. Learn to distinguish the difference between social media rumors and fear mongering and actually reported journalism.
