🐾‼️Meet Hobbes‼️🐾
Dropped off with his brother to a senior citizen unable to care for them, they didn’t even have names until surrendered to the shelter. Due to needing individualized attention, the brothers were separated, and his brother has since been adopted.

Hobbes is a sensitive, playful, energetic and affectionate boy estimated to be about 1 year old. In his foster home he’s been making great strides in learning how to behave on a leash, go to the bathroom outside and other normal “dog things”.

He has been getting along well with the other dogs and cats in his foster home.

He is neutered, heartworm tested and vaccinated.

Appointments to meet him will be scheduled for those who apply to adopt him.

Please see WACshelter.com for adoption fee, and adoption application.

HIPAA Forms: What are they and why do they matter? 🧐⚖️

Think of a HIPAA form as the "legal key" to your medical information. 🗝️🏥 While privacy is important, you don't want your doctors to be legally prohibited from talking to your family during a crisis.

We help Michigan families bridge the gap between privacy and protection by ensuring their estate plans include all the necessary healthcare authorizations. 📋🤝

Why Joint Ownership Isn't Always Best⚖️

Thinking of adding your child to your deed? Think again. While it sounds simple, joint ownership can trigger:

1️⃣ Unintended Gift Taxes
2️⃣ Loss of Stepped-up Basis (meaning higher capital gains taxes for your kids later)
3️⃣ Vulnerability to Creditors

Don't risk your home or your savings on a "simple" fix. Get the facts first.

Losing a loved one is overwhelming, and the "what now?" of legal requirements can feel like a maze. If you’re handling an estate in Michigan, here are the first 5 legal steps you need to take:

1️⃣ Obtain the Death Certificate: Order multiple certified copies. You’ll need these for banks, insurance, and the probate court. 📄

2️⃣ Locate the Estate Documents: Search for a Will, Trust, or any funeral instructions. This determines who is in charge and how assets are handled. 📂

3️⃣ Secure the Property: Ensure the home is locked, vehicles are parked, and tangible valuables are safe. This is a legal duty of the personal representative. 🏠🔐

4️⃣ Notify the Post Office & Social Security: Stop mail delivery or forward it to the person handling the estate and report the passing to the SSA. 📮

5️⃣ Identify the Assets: Start a preliminary list of bank accounts, real estate, and retirement funds. This helps determine if you need to file for formal Probate. 💰

Are you administering a probate estate in Michigan and need guidance? Our office can help. 🤝

Tax season isn’t just about crunching numbers—it’s the perfect time to make sure your estate plan still protects what matters most to you. Life changes fast, and outdated documents can cause major problems for your loved ones later on. Here’s what to pull out and review before filing those returns:

✅ Your Will – Does it still reflect your wishes, beneficiaries, and any new family members?

✅ Trust Documents – Are trustees and distributions still aligned with your goals? Do you have a pour-over Will?

✅ Powers of Attorney – Are the right people still authorized to act on your behalf? Are the right authorities restricted?

✅ Healthcare Directives – Do your medical preferences and decision-makers still make sense? Are the right authorities restricted?

✅ Beneficiary Designations – Check retirement accounts, insurance policies, and investments for accuracy.

Tax season gives a clear snapshot of your financial picture—use it to make sure your estate plan matches your current reality. A quick annual review can prevent costly mistakes and ensure your legacy stays secure.

📞 Ready for peace of mind? Schedule a review with our team today and make sure your plan is as strong as your future.

Mercury is officially in retrograde, which means the "RE" words are in full effect: Review, Revisit, and... Return of that one long lost relative. If your long-lost cousin suddenly slides into your inbox claiming Great Aunt Edna promised them the porcelain cat collection, don't panic. It may just be the cosmos playing tricks. Pro-Tip: Retrograde is also a great time for reviewing your Will, but not for making impulsive changes.
