As we mark the Fourth of July, we pause to reflect on the principles that form the foundation of our country--liberty, justice, and the rule of law.

On June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Texas — the last to hear it. But freedom did not arrive overnight, nor was it absolute. It came in waves, met with resistance, hardship, and continued struggle.

At CMMA, we recognize that the path to justice is rarely linear. As we reflect on Juneteenth, we are reminded that emancipation was not the end of the story — it was the beginning of generations of work toward dignity, equity, and opportunity.
