Neat training workshops at the end of this month from the PTO for inventors that want to learn how to search and prepare for a strong patent application.

This free, two-day virtual workshop will show first-time patent filers how to search public patent databases to determine if their invention is novel in the art.

The trademark side of the PTO has been dealing with fraudulent applications/registrations for the last several years. Changes made by the Office to deal with these fraudulent techniques have complicated specimen requirements for real mark-holders.
Hopefully the worst is over and the dust will settle soon. But "getting a trademark" registered at the PTO looks a lot different now then it did twelve years ago!
Today, the PTO announced it has cancelled 50k goods/service designations from various registrations.

This was made possible by the Trademark Modernization Act of 2020, a bipartisan bill that shored up some missing processes that are important for challenging registrations ways more practical than going to court.
