Virginia Notaries: Major Changes Are Coming July 1, 2026.
If you are a Virginia Notary Public, Real Estate Professional, Attorney, Title Company, or Business Owner who relies on notarized documents, these updates will affect you.
New Virginia legislation will require:
✔ Mandatory notary journals for paper-based notarizations
✔ Verification of commission status before purchasing a notary seal
✔ Consistency of the notary's commissioned name across all notarial documents
✔ Enhanced fraud prevention measures designed to protect the public
Additional training and testing requirements are also scheduled to take effect in 2027.
