”I’m fine.”
Those two words show up in more files than I can count. Said at the scene, on the phone, in the ER waiting room while the adrenaline was still masking everything.
And every single time, insurance writes it down.
Here is what I would say instead:
“I am still being evaluated by my doctor and cannot answer medical questions at this time.”
That is it. Nothing more.
Here is what I would never do:
• Agree to a recorded statement with the other driver’s insurance without a lawyer present
• Accept the first settlement offer without understanding what my case is actually worth
• Sign a medical authorization form without knowing exactly what records I was releasing
• Give a timeline of events without having everything documented first
• Apologize. For anything.
Every word you say is information they will use to pay you less.
If you are currently dealing with an insurance adjuster and you are not sure what to say or what not to say, that is exactly what a free consultation is for.
