The office is the busiest it's ever been and I'm looking to hire an administrative assistant/paralegal part time 20-25 hours per week. Past law office experience a plus as is familiarity with Quickbooks. Responsibilities to include welcoming clients, answering phone and handling new client intakes, billing, bookkeeping, keeping calendar, and scheduling appointments and meetings. Updating case files and helping to obtain and review client medical records in personal injury cases also important. New hire will also assist in drafting wills and other estate planning documents, drive to various courts to file pleadings and other legal documents, and assist in trial preparation and organize witnesses and exhibits. Yesterday our office settled an important personal injury case for our client who suffered from post-concussive syndrome and some hearing loss after being hit in a motor vehicle accident. After initial negotiations left the sides far apart, we filed suit. After months of preparing for trial, it required a court-appointed conciliator to convince the insurance company that a jury would agree with us on the value of the case. It is essential that the insurance company know that the plaintiff's attorney is an experienced litigator and that they will go to trial if necessary. I'm proud to say that after ten days of working hard with my teenage client's family, we were able to convince the court to release him from custody at the house of corrections and transfer him to a rehabilitation center where he will get the treatment he needs. Addiction is a terrible disease which needs to be treated as such. I believe the court system is beginning to view this societal problem that way as well.

I was pleased to have a very happy client in U.S. District Court in Worcester today. He is a federal contractor who was charged with DWI on a military base and would have lost his employment in Massachusetts in a highly specialized field. I would like to thank Rick Bettencourt of the Mortgage Network for inviting me to the Bedford VA this morning to offer my services to veterans referred through the VA. I look forward to being a resource for these veterans and to representing them at a reduced rate or pro bono depending on ability to pay.
