A lot of people have been calling me a bit worried about their taxes because of the media’s attempt to distract the great impact the new tax law has had. Here is an example of what is going on. Married couple, 2 income, last year $87,271 in income. Standard deduction, taxable income at $66,471. Taxes owed... $9,039 and a refund of $4,120 due to a withholding of $13,159.

Now, look at 2018... income is the same. Federal deductions are almost $5,000 higher, yielding a tax of almost $2,000 less. But... due to withholding being lower at $10,690, their refund is $3,592. The ONLY thing to look at is the tax. The law saved them $2,000.00
