UPDATE Monday, Nov. 18: IT'S OFFICIAL: SR 20 North Cascades Highway is closed for the season. Closure points are Ross Dam trailhead (MP 134) to Silver Star gate (MP 171).

ORIGINAL POST (Friday, Nov. 15): IT IS TIME (temporarily, for now). SR 20 North Cascades Highway will close at 5 p.m. Friday (tonight) between Ross Dam trailhead on the west side (milepost 134) and Silver Star gate on the east side (milepost 171) ahead of significant snowfall in the forecast for this weekend.

We're calling it a temporary closure at the moment, but next week is forecast to be colder and drier -- meaning our crews could potentially have a chance to clear and reopen next week.

But this is all based on conditions, and you know it's coming soon, so have a Plan B in mind for your cross-state travel. We'll share updates after our avalanche and maintenance crews reassess on Monday, Nov. 18.
