As mom with a child on the Spectrum, this a huge step in the right direction. I’m thankful that this need is being recognized. I’ve spent years advocating and volunteering at school to help support my son. At times, taking a year or two off from my career to be there because teachers or administrators didn’t understand his point of view.

Florida is now one of the only states mandating annual autism training for all public school teachers and leaders.

Under the new law, every one of Florida's 67 school districts must provide at least one autism-specific training session each year for teachers, instructional staff, and school-based administrators.

The bill passed with a 108-0 vote in the House and a 38-0 vote in the Senate, showing strong bipartisan support.

By connecting schools with regional Centers for Autism and Related Disabilities, the law equips educators with essential tools to effectively support and include autistic students.

Governor Ron DeSantis signed the mandate, which officially took effect on July 1, 2026.

A bipartisan bill called the First-Time Homebuyer Empowerment Act would let first-time buyers use up to $35K from a 529 college savings account toward a down payment on a home.

This is huge for long time homeowners. Many seniors are stuck in a home that is too big or too much maintenance but the tax implications are too high to move. Allowing a larger exemption allows them to take that equity and move it to a right sized home without heavy capital gains taxes holding them down.

Under a new bill gaining support in Congress, the tax-free profit limit on a home sale could double to $500K for single filers and $1 million for couples.
