From residential home closings statewide, to commercial transactions for medical offices, industrial and retail spaces, franchise locations, operating farmland, and pre-developed raw land, 2025 was a year of meaningful work.

Special thanks to the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) for extending the opportunity to me to write about a topic so close to my heart.

In many ways, this call-to-action article is my own version of a love letter to Lake Lure, Franklin, Bryson City, Ellijay, Chimney Rock, and many other, similar towns in Western NC that have been so central to much of my family’s history and to my own life.

One blog post certainly isn’t and won’t be enough to capture the depth of the need still present in Western North Carolina, but if it brings one more volunteer or one more donation into the impacted communities, then it’s well-beyond worth the effort in the attempt, and exercise in vulnerability.
