As students get ready to head back to school, we want to help families keep safety top of mind. No matter how your child gets to school, a few simple precautions can make a big difference.
Walking to school?
• Use sidewalks when available
• Cross only at crosswalks
• Make eye contact with drivers before stepping out
• Walk with others when possible
Riding a bike?
• A properly fitted helmet is essential
• Ride on the right side of the road with traffic
• Stop completely before crossing
• Choose routes with lighter traffic
Taking the bus?
• Stand at least 6 feet back from the curb
• Wait for the bus to fully stop before boarding
• Never walk in front of or behind a bus without making eye contact with the driver
Getting dropped off?
• Follow school zone speed limits
• Stick to your school’s drop-off procedures
• Never pass a bus that’s loading or unloading children
Teen drivers?
• Buckle up every passenger
• Put phones and devices away
• Follow posted speed limits
