Impoverished and underprivileged individuals who are late in making payments towards court costs and fines are generally punished through the issuance of an arrest warrant and the suspension of their license. Those individuals consequently must pay additional fees to satisfy the warrant and renew their driver's license; if they do not have the money to renew their license, they can then be arrested for driving without a valid license, thus incurring even more costs and penalties.
Poverty is not a crime, and individuals should not be punished for lack of resources. Please take a moment to review the letter in the attached link describing current pending legislation designed to correct the flaws of Delaware's fines and fees process, and add your name in support of the enactment of this law.
