I proposed that the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment makes the short return date on the summons in Landlord and Tenant Court illegal. And the Landlord did not get the current month's rent he asked the Magistrate for in addition to the past due rent. Hopefully, that enabled my client to make a smooth transition to another dwelling this month. Back story was that there was no real rush and my client could pay and Landlord had taken money from the Emergency Rent fund through December 2021.

🚨Evictions have been pushed back for an additional month! Here are a few tips on what you can do if you are behind on your rent.

Look for housing assistance grants.
Prepare yourself to move in the event you are evicted.
Look for a new place to live before the eviction takes place.
Make sure you are represented before the summons is issued.
