There's something different about working with someone who's known you for years. Richard was my boss in the financial sector for over 10 years. So when he came to me to put his estate plan together, I felt the weight of that trust.

𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.
I've been thinking about why estate planning is so hard to start.
It's not the paperwork.
It's not the cost.
It's not even finding the time.
It's that it asks us to imagine a world where we're no longer here.

A recent survey found that 1 in 5 people think about death at least once a day. And yet, it remains one of the hardest things to talk about with the people we love most.
We tell ourselves we'll get to it later.
But "later" has a way of becoming "never."

In my work as an estate planning attorney, I've seen how this plays out. The clients who finally walk through my door often say the same thing:
"I wish I'd done this sooner."
Not because the process was as hard as they feared.
But because the RELIEF on the other side was bigger than they expected.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱:
The discomfort isn't a sign to avoid the conversation. It's a sign that it MATTERS.
🔹 Fear can become a prompt to take control.
🔹 Sadness can clarify what we value most.
🔹 Anxiety can point us toward what actually needs addressing.

And here's something many people don't fully appreciate—
Estate planning isn't just about what happens after we're gone. It's about protecting ourselves NOW.
↳ Who makes medical decisions if we can't?
↳ Who steps in during a health crisis?
↳ Without a plan, even a spouse may need court approval to help.
The person you are today is doing a kindness for the person you'll be in 20 years.
