As many 18-year-olds head off to college or begin their next chapter in life, there is one important milestone that often gets overlooked - they are now legal adults! That means parents no longer have the automatic legal authority to make medical decisions or access healthcare information if an emergency arises. Simple estate planning documents, such as a Designation of Health Care Surrogate and a Durable Power of Attorney, can help ensure you are able to step in and assist if your child needs you. These documents are easy to put in place, and they can provide tremendous peace of mind for the entire family. Before your student heads back to school, make sure they are prepared both academically and legally. Feel free to reach out to one of our attorney’s today to discuss - 954-747-1400. Estate Planning/Real Estate Crossover Tip of the Week: If you own a home in Florida, don’t assume your Deed automatically reflects your current wishes. Your Florida homestead property may have been affected by a marriage, divorce, or other life changes that occurred after you purchased it. It’s a good idea to review your deed and your current circumstances to make sure the ownership to your home is exactly what you think it is. An outdated or incorrect deed can create unexpected legal issues when you sell the property or pass it on to your loved ones. Taking a few minutes to review your deed now could help prevent costly problems later. Feel free to reach out to one of our attorneys today at 954-747-1400 if you have any questions.

Probate Tip of the Week – Effective July 1, 2026, Florida changed the laws regarding safe deposit boxes owned by deceased individuals. Before, it wasn't uncommon for banks to create extra hurdles for a personal representative trying to access a deceased loved one's safe deposit box, even after being appointed by the probate court. The new law makes it clear that banks must allow access when the personal representative presents their Letters of Administration, helping reduce delays during an already difficult time. It's a small change that could make a big difference for families navigating probate. If your estate plan hasn't been reviewed in a while, now is a good time to see how Florida's recent probate law changes may affect you. Feel free to reach out to one of our attorneys today – 954-747-1400.

Revis, Hervas & Goldberg in the news! Our very own, Adam Scott Goldberg, had the pleasure of speaking at the Community Foundation of Broward, where he helped educate members about some of the upcoming changes in tax and estate planning laws. Adam was happy to be invited to shed some light on recent events. This marks his seventh year of presenting at the Community Foundation of Broward. Congrats Adam!

Not every post has to be about the law.

Today was about the people behind the practice. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with our staff and their families, sharing laughs, great food, and even better company.

We’re proud of the work we do, but we’re even more grateful for the people who make Revis, Hervas & Goldberg such a special place. Here’s to a team that feels like family. ❤️
