Colorado’s exemption laws changed on April 07, 2022. The changes are substantial. For example, the Homestead Exemption increased from $75,000 to $250,000 (the amount of equity you can keep free from creditor claims). If you are 60 or older, the exemption increased to $350,000. Judgment Creditors (people who have filed a lawsuit and obtained a money judgment from the court, typically a default judgment) will not be able to garnish wages up to and including November 30th, if the judgment debtor (person owing the money) advises the judgment creditor that they have been adversely impacted by the Covid epidemic. No proof is required. This date can be extended to February 01, 2021, by the Uniform Consumer Credit Code Administrator. In addition, up to $4,000 in a bank account deposit is exempt from creditor levy or attachment. See SB 20-211.
