What is a Notary Public?? Let’s break it down! ✍🏽

“A Notary Public is an official of integrity appointed by state government — typically by the secretary of state — to serve the public as an impartial witness in performing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important documents. These official acts are called notarizations, or notarial acts. Notaries are publicly commissioned as "ministerial" officials, meaning that they are expected to follow written rules without the exercise of significant personal discretion, as would otherwise be the case with a "judicial" official.”

What does a Notary do?

“A Notary's duty is to screen the signers of important documents for their true identity, their willingness to sign without duress or intimidation, and their awareness of the contents of the document or transaction.”

Background Checks are an essential part of business and life these days. Here at RMJ, we understand this need but also understand the reality that things change, so people change. As a result of change, we’ve observed how a background check today only serves to give notice of what took place in someone’s life prior to your involvement with them, but doesn’t address where they are today or throughout your dealings with them. Therefore, we use a “Continuous Background Check” system. The system will run an automatic background check for your employees every 3 months. You pay the one-time fee of $120.00 and you will receive a report every quarter for that person for one year.

Throughout our lives we will have experiences where a Notary Public will be needed for various documents. This is where RMJ Notary Services stands ready to help. Below are just a few of the types of documents that will require a Notary Public in Ohio. We charge $5 per notarized document and $25 travel fee for up to 25 miles. Beyond the 25 mile radius, we charge $.55 a mile.
⭐️RMJ Notary Services can assist with other general notary needs such as the following:

Jails- Often times, prisoners may need to give permissions for others to perform various tasks for them (like child care and permissions for school etc…) is where a Notary Public is needed and RMJ Notary Services can help with that.

Hospitals- When a loved one needs certain documents Notarized so they can receive a certain level of care; RMJ Notary Services can help with that too.

Sole Practitioner Attorneys and Investigators- Many documents prepared by Sole Practitioner Attorneys will need to be Notarized. The Attorney may not be able to Notarize them himself/herself thereby needing either an In-House Notary Public, or the use of a mobile Notary. This is where RMJ Notary Services can help since we can travel to meet you at your location so you can maximize your time. Additionally, Private Investigators from time to time will need to have investigation reports Notarized and may not be able to “Certify” them themselves.

Again, RMJ can help! Having a background as a Paralegal and as a Licensed Private Investigator, RMJ has a full understanding of these challenges and how to overcome them.

#1: Notarizing Loan Closings

During the closing process, hundreds of documents may need to be signed by multiple parties. Some of these documents require the signers to take an Oath and others my need to be Acknowledged by a Certified Notary Signing Agent. Given the magnitude of this process which may be for hundreds of thousands of dollars or maybe millions of dollars, it has to be done right the first time. As a result, the Certified Notary Signing Agent needs to be familiar with the types of documents needing Notarization, the type of Notarial Act needed for that document, and to assist the signers with where their signatures are needed to complete the document(s).

We will travel to you at the time and location you prefer to facilitate the loan closing. Having facilitated millions of dollars in loan closings we are experienced in completing the job right the first time. Additionally, if the signers prefer a professional office atmosphere, they are free to make an appointment to come to our offices located in Westlake, Ohio across the street from Crocker Park. However, since we may be traveling to meet other clients, office visits are by APPOINTMENT ONLY.
