High levels of stress were associated with a 30 percent greater risk of cognitive impairment, the authors reported in Alzheimer Disease & Associated Disorders.

Obtaining a guardianship can only be accomplished after a judge has determined that your loved one lacks the capacity to functionally handle his/her personal and financial affairs. If this threshold is met then a judge will ascertain if there are less restricted ways of protecting your loved one and if not, the judge will determine who will be the appointed guardian.
