Abuse, neglect, exploitation, and fraud can have devastating consequences for seniors in our community. That is why the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office remains committed to working with law enforcement agencies and community partners to identify, investigate, and prosecute those who target them.

Within the past year, the office launched CAAVA — the Coalition Against Abuse of Vulnerable Adults — bringing together dedicated professionals focused on preventing elder abuse and strengthening protections for those most at risk.

Under State Attorney Alexcia Cox, the office also established a Special Prosecutions Division that includes units focused on elder crimes, cybercrimes, environmental crimes, animal cruelty, and property deed fraud.

On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we encourage everyone to stay informed, check in on vulnerable loved ones and neighbors, and report suspected abuse or exploitation to law enforcement.

Property taxes can be confusing, so I wanted to make this simple.

This property tax plan has passed the Legislature, and now Florida voters may have the final say.

Here’s what residents should know:

✅ It could lower property tax bills for many homeowners
✅ The larger exemption would apply to non-school taxes
✅ School taxes are treated differently
✅ Local services like fire rescue, libraries, roads, health care, and children’s programs could be impacted
✅ It would need 60% voter approval

I put together this simple Palm Beach County example so families can better understand what this could mean for them.

My goal is simple: make government easier to understand.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think this proposal is a good way to help homeowners, or are you concerned about how it could impact local services?

Drop your thoughts below.
