Nobody tells you how complicated it gets when a parent starts needing help at home.

You're already stressed, you're already stretched thin — and then someone mentions Medicaid and suddenly you're
panicking because "we have a house, we have savings, we'll never qualify."

That part isn't always true.

Medicaid covers home health aides, and there are legal ways to protect your assets before you apply. No five-year wait
for home care either — so even if the need is right now, it's not too late.

I'm an elder law attorney on Long Island and this is what I help families with every day. Happy to answer questions in
the comments or you can reach me through my website — link below. 💛

Most families don’t realize this until they’re already dealing with it:

Medicare—and even supplemental insurance—does NOT cover long-term home care.

It may cover a short rehab stay after a hospital visit,
but once your parent needs ongoing help at home, that coverage stops.

At that point, families are often left paying out of pocket—
and in New York, that can easily be $4,000 to $8,000+ per month.

This is the gap that catches people off guard.

If you have a parent who may need care, it’s important to understand your options before you’re in a crisis.

Most families don’t realize this until it happens — Medicare rehab coverage ends after 100 days per benefit period.

After that, the facility often tells families they must private pay — sometimes $450 to $500 per day — until Medicaid is approved.

This is the moment to act.

With the right legal help, your loved one can still qualify for Medicaid, even if they own a home or have assets. We help families every week make that transition — from “Medicare ending” to “Medicaid approved and care covered.”

Don’t wait for the bills to start. Start planning early, protect your family’s home, and get peace of mind knowing care will continue.

Your parent is in rehab after an illness or injury. Medicare is running out… and the social worker says, “We can’t safely discharge them yet.”

This is where Crisis Medicaid comes in.

Crisis Medicaid helps families when care is needed now — not months from now. It covers the cost of care in the rehab and helps your loved one transition home safely with an aide in place — all while protecting their home and assets through proper legal planning.

We meet families right at the facility to handle everything — so your loved one can come home safely, and you can focus on what matters most.

After signing thousands of support orders as a Family Court Judge for 20+ years, here’s what most parents don’t know:
✅ Support orders CAN be modified when life changes
✅ Honest financial disclosure = everything to judges
✅ Acting early prevents arrears from spiraling
