Ever wondered why some questions make us real estate agents give a mysterious smile? 🤫 Dive into the unspoken rules and the answers we can’t share!

Questions that are off-limits:

✔️ Is this a safe neighborhood?
✔️ How are the schools here?
✔️ What type of people live here?
✔️ What’s the crime rate here?
✔️ Is this a good area to raise a family?

Agents have to navigate Fair Housing Laws, which means we can’t discuss anything that could be seen as steering or discriminating. 🏡

So why the hush-hush? It’s all about fairness. Discrimination based on race, color, religion, s*x, national origin, age, familial and marital status, or disability is a big no-no in real estate.

TO ALL RENTERS

I want to make sure that no one here gets scammed. I am a Realtor and the house photos posted are NOT anywhere near CT! They're phishing for information so that they can try to scam you out of your money.

Tips to keep you safe:

1. If you attempt contact, you're most likely going to be talking to someone somewhere overseas.

2. If they tell you that you need to pay some sort of deposit via Zelle or BitCoin AND you can't even see the house/unit at all, then consider it to be a scam.

3. Have an agent, landlord/property manager show you the house. If they ask for money to run a credit/background check that's fine.

4. Only give a deposit when you have signed paperwork and been handed the keys.

5. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true for the area, it probably is! West Haven generally runs $1200+ a month in rent depending on where it is and how many bedrooms. If it's a student rental, it'll be more like $700+ per person per month. Houses in most areas of West Haven have also going up significantly in price. Gone are the $50,000 foreclosure days that we had a few years ago.

6. Stay vigilant and don't get scammed!
